The Reunion Active Adults Community in Redmond, Washington offers a variety of activities for their older residents, including yoga, art classes, lectures, dinners and Bingo. A favorite activity – and one people didn’t realize they would enjoy – is picking up trash from the nearby trails and park. “I love it,” resident Bill said after a recent Pliking event. “It made me feel so good, I can’t wait to go again.”
From the trail leading to a nearby shopping center, plikers collected fast food containers, receipts, boxes and plastic bags. From the trail near a large apartment complex, they gathered abandoned household goods, a hub cap, and the unfortunately common dog poop bags. The hiking trail yielded the largest finds, with a bike tire (tube included), tools, large pieces of wood and plastic sheeting.
We would love to help you organize a cleanup event in your own community! For more information, please email at [email protected]
